Ramada is a globally recognised hotel and resort brand offering premium accommodation and hospitality across more than 60 countries.

The Ramada Hotel in Port Douglas, North Queensland, provides a tropical retreat for guests visiting one of Australia’s most scenic coastal regions.


The Challenge

With summer temperatures often exceeding 35°C and humidity levels reaching 80%, the hotel’s reception area suffered from overheating and stagnant air. Guests and staff experienced significant discomfort, particularly during peak tropical conditions when staff were expected to maintain a welcoming environment.

Ceiling paddle fans had been installed in an attempt to alleviate the issue, but they failed to deliver effective cooling or consistent airflow. The lack of adequate air circulation not only affected comfort but also created an uninviting first impression for arriving guests.

The hotel required a compact, energy-efficient solution capable of providing focused cooling at the reception counter while improving overall air movement throughout.

Airius Cooling Fans Improve Comfort in Tropical Climate at Ramada Inn

After consulting with Airius, the hotel trialled a single Aisle Series fan behind the reception counter. The improvement was immediate, prompting the installation of four additional units soon after.

Part of Airius’ purpose-designed range for counter and aisle-based environments, the Aisle Series produces an elongated airflow pattern that delivers even, directional air movement across extended areas. Suspended above each workstation, the fans were angled to provide targeted comfort for both staff and guests while blending seamlessly with the interior design thanks to their discreet housing and near-silent operation.

Airius’ patented airflow technology also enhanced general circulation throughout the reception area. By entraining surrounding air into its flow, the system eliminated stagnant zones and created a gentle, balanced cooling effect across the entire space.

The result is a fresher, more comfortable reception environment, with controlled airflow precisely where it is needed, all achieved using minimal energy and at a fraction of the cost of traditional air conditioning.
