PureAir+ NPBITM Active Cleaning

‘Active’ cleaning uses systems that circulate purifying agents in and around the environment cleaning the whole space at the same time, whereas ‘Passive’ cleaning requires air to go through a filter to be cleaned.

Passive air purification systems require air to pass through a filter in order to be cleaned. This means it can take a very long time to treat all the air in a room or space, which may not even be achievable in poorly circulated areas.

The PureAir+ NPBI’s Active air purification system does not require air to pass through the unit, but instead sends purifying agents from its integrated Ion emitters out into the space via the fan, not only cleaning the air, but all surfaces they come into contact with as well, all at the same time.

How It Works

The Airius PureAir+ NPBI Series incorporates a patented and self cleaning NeedlePoint BiPolar Ion emitter within the fan unit. The NPBI emitter emits ‘Positive and Negative’ Ions, a naturally occurring cleaning agent, which are circulated throughout spaces via the fan.

As the fans circulate internal atmosphere, the PureAir+ NPBI circulates its neutralising BiPolar Ions, providing 24/7 continuous Air Purification.

Self Cleaning NPBITM Emitter

The Airius PureAir’s Integrated NPBI Emitter, from one of the world’s leading manufacturers of indoor air quality systems – Global Plasma Solutions, is the latest advancement in BiPolar Ionisation Technology, using the power of ions to provide continuous round-the-clock sterilisation, neutralising up to 99.9%+ of all known pathogens, VOCs and odours, in both the air and on all surfaces

At the heart of every PureAir+ NPBI Series fan is a unique NPBITM NeedlePoint BiPolar Ion emitter, which emits a high concentration of Positive and Negative Ions which are circulated in to spaces via the fan. The ions polarity attracts them to all particles within the space, causing the particles to cluster together and make them filterable. They also bond with and neutralise pathogens, VOCs and odours by removing hydrogen atoms, breaking them down into their basic, harmless and odourless compounds, such as O2, CO2, N2 and H2O. In addition to biological pollutants these cleaning agents also neutralize chemicals such as mercury, benzene, formaldehyde, chloroform, and ammonia.

Innovative Bioanalysis

Innovative Bioanalysis is a CAP, CLIA, and AABB-certified reference laboratory providing laboratory services to the healthcare and clinical research industries.

Using Global Plasma Solutions NPBITM technology to mitigate contaminants a study was designed to test the effectiveness on reducing SARS-CoV-2. Based on viral titrations, it was determined that at 10 minutes, 84.2% of the virus was inactivated, at 15 minutes, 92.6% of the virus was inactivated and at 30 minutes, 99.4% of the virus was inactivated.

Typically, Airius fans are installed in the ceiling space with the nozzle directed directly downwards and performs best when the air column is unimpeded to the floor.

Units must be hung using fixings such as hooks, chains, cables etc to professionally installed hardware capable of supporting a minimum of five times the weight of the unit.

Does the PureAir+ NPBITM eliminate COVID19?

The GPS NPBI® technology incorporated within the PureAir+ NPBITM Series is one of the first to have been tested on a live strain of SARS-CoV-2 and not a surrogate or similar virus.

The testing was carried out by Innovative Bioanalysis on behalf of Aviation Clean Air, in a real world environment against the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19), which showed an inactivation rate of 84.2% within 10 minutes, 92.6% within 15 minutes and 99.4% within 30 minutes.

What is the difference between 'Active' & 'Passive' Air Purification?

There are two types of air purifiers available for home use, which use two main kinds of purification processes. These are:

• Passive type air purifiers, which are the standard HEPA filters, where the air is drawn into the machine and passed through a filter to remove contaminants, before clean air is released on the other side.

• Active type air purifiers, that send cleaning agents out into the space to clean the air, and create an ambient atmosphere.

The Airius PureAir range employs ‘Active’ air purification to provide continuous treatment of both the air and and surfaces at the same time.

What is NPBITM (NeedlePoint BiPolar Ionisation)?

The Needlepoint Bipolar Ionisation technology integrated within the PureAir NPBI Series, generates a high voltage field that creates positive and negative ions, emitted through tiny needlepoint brush heads fitted in the unit.

These ions are then circulated into spaces via the fans airflow and actively target contaminants in the air field, stripping them of hydrogen, reducing them to their harmless base compounds.

How does the PureAir+ NPBITM save money on air exchange rates?

Outdoor air is required to ventilate a property according to the VRP (Ventilation Rate Procedure), which requires HVAC equipment and HP.

By improving the indoor air quality and minimising contaminants of concern, a site may be able to substantially reduce the need to bring in outdoor air, which could save on HVAC equipment costs and reduce energy consumption. (Reference the Indoor Air Quality Procedure IAQP in ASHRAE 62.1)

Is NPBITM technology UL Certified?

The NPBI technology in the PureAir+ NPBITM complies with UL 867 or UL 2998 to ensure no harmful levels of ozone are produced.

How long do the ions last in the air?

Typically, small ions have a life expectancy of up to 60 seconds before they touch a surface or particle to discharge.

Does ionisation degrade filters, insulation or wire coatings?


Does ionisation have an odour to it?

No, ionisation is odourless. Some customers have experienced a change in the way the ionised space smells due to the removal of doors they had grown accustomed to.

What are the auto-cleaning settings?

The factory setting is to clean once every three days. The cleaning frequency can be changed to clean between once every day to once every five days.

Does performance deteriorate over time?

The PureAir+ NPBITM Auto-cleaning technology ensures sustained ion output over time. Ion output can decrease without this feature, in addition to accumulation of humidity and other material build-up.

The PureAir+ NPBITM auto-cleaning feature performs regular wipes of emitter brushes, which prevents build-up. The resulting benefit is optimal lifetime performance.

Does the product keep my HVAC ducts clean, eliminating the need for annual or periodic cleaning?

Customers who have installed NPBITM technology have greatly reduced or eliminated the need for duct cleaning.

What happens if you touch the emitter brushes during operation?

Touching the emitter brushes will produce a mild to moderate electric shock. It is not recommended.

What is the Warranty period?

All Airius PureAir Series fans come with a 5 year Fan Replacement Warranty. Simply return defective units to Airius, carriage paid and upon receipt Airius will dispatch a new unit by return carriage fully paid.
